Description
Magnesium L-lactate powder 180g, 90 servings
Why is magnesium important?
Magnesium is a particularly important mineral, and it is difficult to get the daily amount we need from our diet alone. Many processed foods contain no magnesium at all, and stress, exercise, coffee and tea consumption all increase the excretion of magnesium from the body. For all these reasons, magnesium deficiency is now common and supplementation is beneficial for almost everyone.
Who should supplement with magnesium?
Since most people do not consume enough magnesium, it is worth supplementing with enough to get at least 400 mg of elemental magnesium per day, depending on your diet. Higher magnesium intakes have a number of health benefits, in brief:
- improves sports performance
- prevents muscle cramps and enhances muscle regeneration
- calming, stress-reducing effects
- stimulates the immune system
- helps prevent cardiovascular problems
- improves blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity
- better quality sleep, clearer thinking, more energy
- help you more efficiently Vitamin D function (but this also requires proper kidney function - active D hormone), which the Herbafulvo support
How to choose the right type of magnesium?
The absorption of different magnesium preparations varies greatly, which has a significant impact on the discomfort experienced during magnesium supplementation. Certain magnesium products may cause diarrhoea, loose stools or other digestive problems, which in such cases are caused by unabsorbed magnesium.
Inorganic forms of magnesium, such as - sulphate, - oxide, - carbonate, - hydroxide, are hardly utilized, but can cause the same unpleasant symptoms as above. Of the inorganic magnesium forms, only -chloride has good utilisation.
Organic (chelated) forms of magnesium are mostly well absorbed and therefore rarely cause digestive symptoms. They include magnesium bisglycinate, lactate and taurate. An exception is magnesium citrate, which is a salt of magnesium with citric acid, and too much citric acid tends to cause loose stools: although it is well absorbed in small amounts, in the required dosage it also causes diarrhoea in most people.
What to look for when choosing a product?
Many marketed organic magnesium preparations are not actually what they say they are. Most use only partially or not at all reacted, activated magnesium compounds. This means, for example, that a product may be described as containing magnesium malate when in fact it contains only a mixture of magnesium oxide/carbonate and malic acid. Another typical example is that instead of the magnesium citrate on the box, the product contains a mixture of magnesium oxide and citric acid.
It is possible that the reaction is partially complete, but most of the magnesium is not present in the candidate form. This is why it is so common for even organic forms to cause diarrhoea, because they actually contain only part of the candidate organic form. The elemental magnesium content is always higher in the non-full reacted forms, which are also cheaper raw materials and therefore much more economical.
Of course, we only use a "fully reacted" version of everything, including magnesium.
What are the benefits of magnesium L-lactate?
Magnesium L-lactate is the salt of magnesium with lactic acid, L-lactic acid, not D- or DL-lactic acid. This is important because L-lactic acid enters the bloodstream as L-lactate, which is the preferred fuel for the brain and heart, among other things, so if there is enough L-lactate in the blood, the heart and brain cells prefer the latter rather than glucose (or even ketone bodies).
We usually have little L-lactate in our bodies - most of it is present during and after exercise, which is one of the reasons why we feel so good after exercise. D-lactate, on the other hand, is not a nutrient in our bodies and ideally levels are low - usually only elevated when there is increased stress, metabolic disease or when our gut flora is upset.
So, in addition to its magnesium content, magnesium L-lactate has the added benefit of providing a beneficial form of lactic acid/lactate. As well as being a well-utilised form of magnesium that rarely causes diarrhoea, it is also very economical: it is the most economical on a per unit cost of elemental magnesium basis. And the taste is relatively neutral, so it can be mixed in almost any drink. It is recommended for those who want the most economical way to get quality magnesium.
